A note on fees
Please note that while counselling services are currently ineligible for Medicare rebates, a counselling session can often cost similar or less than than the out-of-pocket expenses for a psychologist (even with the Medicare rebate). At Kardia Collective, fees for counselling services have been set with this in mind.

What to expect from counselling

Before your first appointment

Attending a counselling session with a new therapist for the first time can be a daunting experience. It’s very normal to feel apprehensive, unsure, and quite frankly, wanting to run and hide! While these feelings are expected, it’s important to remember that something in your life is bothering you enough that you made that appointment in the first place, and that’s a great place to start.

At your first appointment

Our first session is a gentle exploration of what brought you to counselling as an individual or couple. Remember, your therapist is trained to listen and help you untangle unpleasant thoughts and feelings.

We might use the first session to explore just one issue or multiple problems you’re facing. It doesn’t need to make sense or flow and can be a highly emotional time. This is part of the process of reflecting - whether you’re new to therapy or a seasoned client, it can bring a lot of relief.

Future appointments

No therapy journey is linear or the same, and counselling can help you to tap into your inner resources to find a suitable way forward.

You are always in control of how much, how little, or for how long you’d like to attend counselling. We’ll set expectations around this together in our early sessions.
